Being trapped overnight in an isolated house is already enough of a horror setup. Now imagine realizing the elderly patient you're caring for might not be the only presence in there with you.

Supernatural horror film Bury the Devil arrives in select theaters and on demand today, August 21, from Brainstorm Media. Directed by Adam O'Brien, the film stars Dawn Ford, Emmanuelle Lussier Martinez, and Bill Rowat.

The story follows a hospice nurse caring for an elderly woman with dementia inside an isolated home. At first, the patient's increasingly strange behavior could have an explanation. As the night continues, though, it becomes harder to dismiss what's happening around her. Something sinister is making its way through the house, and what initially looked like an unusually difficult shift becomes a fight to survive a demonic presence.

What makes Bury the Devil especially interesting is how we're going to experience that night with her. The 85-minute movie unfolds in real time and is presented as a single continuous shot. No jumping ahead. No cutting away from the house when things get uncomfortable. Once the night starts going wrong, we're essentially stuck there too.

That approach could make the isolation hit considerably harder. Instead of giving us the usual relief of a scene change or time jump, the camera remains with the characters as the situation escalates, turning the house into one long, uninterrupted nightmare.

O'Brien directs from a screenplay by John Petrizzi and Brad Hodson, with Philip Kalin-Hajdu, Benoit Beaulieu, and O'Brien producing.

If you're into demonic horror that keeps its characters trapped in one location with nowhere comfortable to escape, you can catch Bury the Devil in select theaters or watch it at home beginning today, August 21. The film is available on demand, including through Apple TV.

Maybe just don't make this your pick before an overnight shift.
