Imagine investigating a murder when the system controlling practically everything around you might also be part of the problem. That's the future waiting in Hot Spot, and apparently solving the case is only the beginning of the nightmare.
Sci-fi thriller Hot Spot arrives exclusively in theaters today, August 21, starring Andrzej Konopka and Noomi Rapace in a near-future society ruled by sentient artificial intelligence.
The film follows a private investigator working a murder case within this AI-controlled world. His investigation eventually leads him to a rebel group with the ability to undermine the digital overlord governing society, turning what began as a murder mystery into something much bigger.
And then things start getting weird.
As the detective gets closer to the truth, his own identity begins to unravel. His marriage starts falling apart alongside it, while the world around him slips into what the film describes as a "hypnotic meltdown." Suddenly, figuring out who committed the murder might not be as difficult as figuring out what's actually real.
It's an interesting setup for anyone who likes their science fiction mixed with paranoia. Rather than simply going with an AI-gone-rogue story, Hot Spot appears to bring the threat down to a much more personal level, questioning what happens to someone's identity when the digital system surrounding them can no longer be trusted.
With sentient AI controlling the future, a murder to solve, rebels working against the system, and a detective increasingly losing his grip on his own reality, you can enter the world of Hot Spot in theaters beginning today, August 21.
Maybe don't ask the AI where the nearest showing is.
Okay, that one might be unavoidable.
