A weekend getaway with five social media influencers sounds like it could become a nightmare all on its own. Unfortunately for this group, there's also an ancient Irish vampire involved.
Feed is available on Digital and On Demand today, August 14, bringing Irish folklore, influencer culture, grief, and a very old bloodsucker together for a new supernatural horror story from Saban Films.
Written and directed by Marco van Belle, Feed follows five influencers who head into the forest for a weekend retreat intended to help their grieving friend Orla cope with the death of her family. Things take a horrifying turn when Orla's blood awakens the Dearg-Due, a legendary vampire rooted in Irish folklore.
Once awakened, the creature begins infecting Orla's friends, spreading violence and madness through the group as its influence becomes increasingly powerful. What started as an escape from grief quickly becomes a fight to survive something that has been manipulating people long before anyone cared about followers or likes.
An Ancient Vampire Meets Modern Influence
That's also where Feed puts an interesting spin on its influencer premise.
The film draws inspiration from vampire mythology and the Irish legend of the Dearg-Due while exploring modern social media culture. Instead of simply making influencers disposable victims for an ancient monster, the story pits people obsessed with modern influence against a creature possessing a much darker form of influence through temptation, manipulation, and control.
For Orla, that manipulation becomes painfully personal.
The vampire eventually presents her with a brutal choice: become its next host and have the opportunity to reunite with her dead family, or destroy the creature and lose them forever.
Suddenly killing the vampire isn't quite as simple as finding a stake.
Grace Collender stars as Orla alongside Clinton Liberty, Daisy Jelley, Niamh Hogan, Rhys Mannion, and Oskar Smith. The film runs approximately 82 minutes and comes from Ripple World and Umedia, with Saban Films handling its Digital and VOD release.
If you've been looking for a vampire movie that steps outside the usual Dracula-inspired territory, Feed has an intriguing hook. Irish folklore gives the bloodsucker a different mythology, while Orla's grief makes resisting the creature about much more than simply surviving the night.
